7Dates A Day for Vibrant Living
The earth is getting warmer. The globe temperature has risen by almost a degree since the Industrial Revolution. Though scientists are looking for an alternative planet which can sustain human life, this pursuit can only remain as a theory until we find one. For now we need to be conscious about the earth we live in. We need this earth for our survival. We have no where to go at the moment.
With this in mind I wrote about earth hour 2010. After I had posted I had also sent out a message to all whom I know via my handphone. I told them to take a pledge on my site. But sadly, none of them bothered to visit. Singaporeans are always ‘very busy’. We claim to be modern society but we do not live conciously.
But a man from a tribal group who lived in Mecca 1400 over years ago said the following :
- ‘if the Hour (Judgment Day) is about to be established and one of you if holding a palm shoot, let him take advantage of even one second before the HOur is established to plant it’
- ” If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it, he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity”
First Quarter Dry Weather
Four days ago I bought a pair of ‘rayban’ sun shades to protect from the scorching glare of the sun. Rainfall for the first 3 months this year in Singapore is really minimal. The heat is terrible. I feel like I am in the desert land. Office gossip is outdated during this heat wave. The immediate topic is all about the heat of the day!
If I take a 400 meter walk around my estate, and by the time I reach my office I almost become drenched in sweat. The sweat maintains the body temperature at 37 degrees Celsius by evaporation. Sweating is a sign of good health. But too much sweat causes loss of potassium in our body system. Do you know what potassium does to maintain our health?
Potassium benefits
Potassium helps to maintain the proper functioning of nerve muscle and heart muscle. This is good news. The heart is the vital organ in our body. Its stability affects the entire system. The oxygen in the blood pumped by the heart is carried through the veins to the different parts of the organs including the brain. The brain ‘tells’ the other parts and organs of the body to ‘react’ to conditions via spinal ord and nerve system.
We eat food to maintain our energy level. Most food contains some element of sodium or salt. The sodium in our system absorbs water molecule. The sodium (which has absorbed water)in our blood then adds pressure to the heart. The heart has to pump even harder to push the blood due to water content in the sodium. This creates blood pressure. Potassium helps to release sodium( and water) during urination.
Conclusion :
When your heart is in optimum condition: blood pressure is controlled; anxiety is managed; with anxiety stress is managed; risk of getting stroke is managed; and with the other organs functioning well most of the diseases are averted including diabetics.
7 Dates A Day
The timeless superstar Prophet Muhammad said” Save yourself from the the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (to be given in charity). And if you do not find, then with a good pleasant word” In another book Sunan Abu Dawud there is this following sayings of the Prophet :
Narrated Sa’d : I suffered from an illness. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) came to pay a visit to me. He put his hands between my nipples and I felt its coolness at my heart. He said : You are a man suffering from heart sickness. Go to al-Harith ibn Kaladah, brother of Thaqif. He is a man who gives medical treatment. He should take seven ajwah dates of Medina and grind them with their kernels, and then put them into your mouth.- book 28, 3866
A date contains about 50mg of potassium. Eating 7 dates a day you will have around 10 percent of the daily limit of potassium(for sure). The minimum requrement is 3.6g per day. I have the following suggestion on how to eat the 7 dates :
- With bread – take 3 slices of bread and spread some magarine over them. Sprinkle the bread with dates.
- With Oats – mix oats and sprinkle some dates. Dates are good substitute for table sugar.
- With pancake – Sprinkle dates over 3 pancakes.
- Pie and dates go very well together in the morning.
If you can’t take them in the morning, you can take them partially during lunch time. Buy a box of dates and keep them refrigerated in your office. After lunch you can have at least 3 dates. Try the 7 dates a day and tell me the boost in your life.
