Persistence Pays Off Tomorrow: Starbucks
Persistence pays off tomorrow. It is true successful people are dreamers and they believed they will achieve what they dream about. One such personality is Mr Howard Schultz. Howard Schultz tried to get a job in Starbucks for a year and he was not successful. There were only three starbucks shops in Seattle selling only beans and coffee utensils – not coffee in a cup.
Howard Schultz was a salesman from a Swedish company and he was so attracted by the passion and ambience of the Starbuck outlets. He taught ‘why not sell coffee in a cup’. Finally, he managed to get a job at Starbucks as Director of Retail Operations and Marketing in 1982. He spent his time learning how to roast good coffee beans. He did not stop there.
He had an idea of moving the business from selling coffee beans to selling coffee in a cup. The owners of Starbucks did not buy his idea as they thought people drink coffee at home. The idea was rejected for the next 12 months. The owners thought this idea might jeopardise the primary business- selling coffee beans. But Howard Schultz was persistent. He believed that his idea will work out.
He started his own company El Gionale after he came out from Starbucks. He had to speak with 240 investors before he had enough money to launch el Gionale. Mr Howard Schultz says ” how many times you have heard people saying I know that idea, I knew about that…I was so close but I gave up. I think the difference between success and failure, in winning and losing there is a veryfine line, between those people who move forward”

Pesrsistence is needed to bring your idea to reality. No matter what other say, it is the baby chick’s persistence as it pushes the egg crust to see what is outside the shell. ” I have a story of people closing doors and me saying, “No it is still open” – Mr Howard Schultz, Chairman of Starbucks.
