I still remember the first job I had applied. That was 26 years ago. I had to write out the covering letter with a 3 page attachment of my work experience – a full resume. I had a typewriter which came in handy in those days for job application.

I then made copies of my resume and kept them in my drawer for future applications. When comes to job application, it usually takes my entire day planning to draft out the resume.

Times have changed favourably. With the help of internet facility we do not have to go into the conventional ways of keeping our employment records. Blogging facility comes very handy to create your own resume page. If you have a blog you can just create a page for your resume.

• Take a look at the sample page at http://personalbiodata.wordpress.com/. As you can see I have chosen a very specific blog name ‘personal bio data’. A suitable name gives a vivid impression to visitors (probably employers) the purpose of your page.
• It is a good practice to make the page as simple as possible with an appropriate header picture as well.  A resume is a summary of your ability for your next job. My header picture depicts a person walking on a long path indicates searching for something new – a new job.
• WordPress has many clean templates. I did my resume in wordpress as you have the options to place pages on top of your page. Here I name the pages by time period : 1983 – 1995; 1995 to 2007; etc. What did I do or achieve during the period concern? As the employer clicks on the pages he gets a synopsis of my working experience for the particular period in question.
• Online resume page gives you peace of mind of having loads of copies of resume in your store. In your application you can use hyperlink to your page for easy reference.
• By not attaching a copy of your resume in your covering letter to the employer, you can save postage cost in case you’re sending the letter via mail.
• Your employer can take a look at your resume whenever he prefers and he does not have to make a copy for his filing. It’s all there online!
• By having a contact page, any employer happens to browse the net can stumble upon your page. You may the right candidate he his looking for. You experience being exposed worldwide.
