Direct Your Mind
The mind needs to have a direction. It has to have a goal to prevent it from confusion. A ship sets its location by seeing the stars and planets. The mind has to have star goals to interlock its useless thinking.
In the absence of external demand for thoughts, the mind somehow stimulates independent thoughts. The mind wanders. Therefore, it is important that we set out a goal each day. This helps to occupy the mind with constructive thoughts.
What we do also affects our thinking and our decision-making in life. When I was performing as a housing agent, I see all people as my likely customers. This enforces me (my mind) to engage a friendly smile at strangers. They become my target customers.
The mind is a powerful tool if you empower it so.
Jack Lalanne Mind
As a kid, Jack Lalanne was a sugarholic and a junk food junkie. Jack Lalanne’s mind was not empowered with the right thoughts. The junk food made him weak and mean. It was at the age of 15, when he heard pioneer nutritionist Paul Bragg speak at the Women’s Club San Francisco Bay Area, Jack finally realized that he was addicted to sugar. He walked away with an empowering thought that the body was his slave and it had to work for him.
At the Berkeley YMCA, he started experimenting with simple weights. He became a voracious reader and Gray’s Anatomy became his bible. He went to Chiropractic College and graduated. Jack’s life changed from an eater of any food to a chooser of a proper diet. A new Jack Lalanne body evolved when he became directing his mind what to do and not the other way round. He told his mind “what you eat is what you are”.
He started television shows in the 1950s to 1980s of his newfound gospel of proper diet and exercise. The Jack Lalanne show was everybody’s favourite TV show. Even children and housewives were glued to his shows. A chair in your dining area can be a tool for your daily exercise. Women at home took him as the guru of exercise. People at large, named him as the godfather of fitness. He motivated people of all age to get up and do his simple exercises daily.
His top priority was to work out every single day. That was what he told his mind to do.
Herbert W Armstrong Mind
Herbert W Armstrong was in advertisement. He was not interested in religion or the Bible or anything else not related to his advertising career until 1926. His wife discovered that the Bible taught Sabbath keeping on the 7th day.
She became very excited and decided to start keeping the Sabbath on the 7th day of the week as opposed the first day of the week. This news did not thrill Mr. Armstrong. His marriage seemed in trouble due to this. He decided the best course of action was to study the Bible and prove his wife was wrong.
To his surprise, Mr. Armstrong not only discovered the Bible taught a 7th day Sabbath, but he discovered why almost all Christian sects had been keeping Sunday as the Sabbath for over 1,600 years. His research uncovered a very important historical event called the Council of Laodicea, 364 AD.
Mr. Armstrong realized that the change of the Sabbath was not of scriptural origin but because of a decision among men during the 4th century A.D. From that day onwards, he directed his mind to obey God in all things. His life changed. He went on and later found a church called the Radio Church of God, which taught the seventh Day Sabbath and the New Testament meaning of the Holy Days of God. Later the name changed to the Worldwide Church of God. He also founded the Ambassador College, which trained ministers for what he called, “The Work”.
I was a reader of the Plaint Truth magazine when I was in college. It helped me to understand the current affairs of the world. It was offered to the public free. Today, many churches continue in the spirit and tradition of Mr Armstrong.
He told his mind to follow the way of the Bible.
You are what you direct your mind
Jack Lalanne and Herbert W Armstrong led different lives. One was a fitness specialist and the other a revolutionary evangelist. However, both these great men attained long lives, a healthy mind and body. They had enriched lives. They were satisfied and happy.
Jack Lalanne proposed a proper diet and exercise regimen. Herbert on the other hand said that sickness and disease cannot be eradicated until good habits (living according to Nature’s Laws as set by Creator –God) are submitted to bad ones.
Both gave a new direction to their minds and thereby new set of values created. With new direction, came new results into their lives. With elation in their hearts, they also through media brought many millions of lives to healthy happy lives. Jack Lalanne and Herbert Armstrong learned as they began to teach others the way to open the door of happy and healthy lives.
These two great beings taught us how to harness, direct, and instruct our mind in order to begin to utilize the full potential of your mind. By this, you can use the power of your mind to create the life you want.
Jack Lalanne and Herbert W Armstrong taught us that if we can direct our minds we could grow rich. To create the things we want in life we have to firstly, to take control of our minds-not the other way round. It does not matter what else we do.
People who are afraid to use the power of their minds are the people who lead mediocre lives. They submit to fates and destiny. I can tell you this: if you do not learn to work with your mind – nothing else will work. If you can consistently direct your mind to do a certain pattern of action, even if you fail you will not say, “That’s just the way life is. It was meant to be”. You will stand up again and again until you reach your true destiny.
Are you robbing yourselves of a much better life than you are currently leading? Are you not going to make better decisions when you fail for the first, second or third time in your life? Are you not learning from those decisions?
All has to do with control and directing your mind. You need to draw out a line from where you are now to where you want to go. That is how simple it is. You have a powerful tool out there at your crown. If things are not going the way you want to go, do not get frustrated. Direct your mind consistently and bring it to the highest potential, to create a life that you wish to experience, and to truly live a fulfilled life.
Jack Lalanne and Herbert W Armstrong lived truly fulfilled lives. They directed their minds to go the way they want to go. In the process, they also invited us to join their bandwagons to blissful experiences.
