Every morning,before I approach my train station I had been noticing a long queue At the end of the long line there stand a middle age lady giving out newspapers. Its a free newspaper. It is for your information only.

In Singapore we have a couple of free newspaper publication: my paper; today – to name a few. 20 years ago, the popular English paper is the Straits Times. Even though this cost a dollar now, majority of Singaporeans do browse a copy every day.
I spent at least 3 hours reading the entire paper when I was in my pre university days. However, nowadays I just gloss over the most interesting news read. I’m unable to find time for reading.In addition currently information is obtained almost instantly. The floodgate of information is ready to serve anyone at its doorway.

A pound for a thought

The events that are happening around us have a beginning from one source. This source can be in the form of a group or an individual. A current event is a development from an earlier happening. When you trace back, all started from a human thought. However, it is up to us on how we react to the current events.

The information that is spread around might not been the truth. It can mixed with miscommunication, misinterpretation and adulterated during the delay in the transmission of the message. The most important thing to note is the validity of thought.
Every individual is unique. They are different from the rest. Even if a person is not doing anything there are billions of neurons working and passing messages between them. I call them the chattering of the mind. Every thought might not be suitable at a particular point in time. However, we cannot be living outside of this thought. Either we ignore it or live with the result of our action from our thought.

If you are using a company’s vehicle in your job and you do not want to claim for your parking tickets and electronic road pricing charges. This is because the process of claim is tedious. The reason for this is partly is that you can afford this expenses. But, a more cultured approach is to check your thought against other point of view. What happens when your successor cannot afford all these expenses? Your very thinking has made someone’s life difficult. You are putting him at a disadvantage situation.

Information Age

I have just cancelled the one time free installation of a data line to my house. I do not need a fast data line. The current speed is sufficient for my online involvement. Information is not always a good thing.

Like how a mere thought of one affects the other, an event that is happening in one part of the world affects human thinking in general. The public interpretation of information is crucial rather the speed of the message.

The recent public resentment against the Egyptian government does create a dominoe effect to other countries like Tunisia, Libya and Morocco whose public see a way out by copycat reaction. This is a classic example of how events in another part of the world affects public thinking.

When we hear news of a recent epidemic of bird flu, we became more anxious of our germ filled surroundings. However, we feel at ease and relaxed at other times. Management of news is necessary.

To see the plus point

Putting the right emotions to the events unfolding in other parts of the world is part of management. But this is an idealistic approach. The solution of censorship plays a minimal role due to the advent of the internet. We are not frogs in the wells anymore.

The tsunami in Japan in march 2011 and the subsequent explosion in one of its nuclear plant caused much concern here. But, the public should be able to disintegrate and dilute the information. Warren Buffett told that the problem in Japan creates buying time- seeing advantage in an event. It is also a time for a helping hand.

911 is a number for the 11th September. The twin tower came down on this date years ago. However, this news has a good effect as it brings the world together to remember this date where innocent lives were lost. Sometimes information not only for your information only but to experience the joys and loss of other fellow human beings.
