Last friday, an old man asked me to recommend a job to him as he had been unemployed for the past three months. I was wondering how will I earn when I become as old as him. It is sad and so sad. Economic well being basically means to say that an individual lives by having so much income, and uses it to satisfy his basic needs. Every individual produces a good or renders his service to gain a monetary income in today’s context. In almost every country, the proportiion of people aged over sixty is growing faster than any other age group.

When the old gets older, how are they going to eke out a living? They are not as stronger when they used to be. A construction worker in his twenties cannot be doing the same job when he reaches old age. In Singapore, the employers and the government are looking on how they can give employment to an aging population on one hand.

Alternatively, there has been also some discussion going on on how to make children to share the burden of the aging parents. But whether the policy is to persuade the aged to be competitive or seek enforced compassion from their children, the truth is one : the aged also need to live and survive during their remaing years. You will be the next old man or woman. So how are you going to prepare for old age? What is your means of survival? How are you going to earn an income to go through the rest of your remaining years?

Write A Book

Divide your life journery in years of eight and start writing your story from the age of eight to date. In each phase of eight, remember the specific details of your life’s experiences : it can be your first fall from a game or the first born in your married life. You can write about how you met your sweet heart and how was your heart broken by him or her. Describe how you felt when the different events unfolded like a book in your life. A paperback of 300 pages is a good story all about you.

You story is going to be unique. No one has the same story because each individual reacts differently to the events that happen to them. Blogging is not an easy task. But if it is done with passion you can drive great targetted traffic for your good contents. You can start a blog without any cost at blogger.

Teach

You are not old but experienced. If you blabber about your background you can be considered boastful. It is more rewarding if you can channell your past experience by way of teaching – you become a teacher.

A retired doctor can teach the new entrants to the trade. A retired florist can teach other interested people on how to arrange flowers beautifully.You can actually start a school or join the community group and teach others your acquired skills. Sell Your Hobby

Make your hobby work out for you. If you have a hobby like collecting stamps, pens, expensive watches, rugs or engagement rings if you keep them for a longer period of time, the items become antiques. For example, celebrities have shown that wearing out of the ordinary antique jewellery pieces is a great way to stand out from the crowd. There is always a strong demand for collection of antiquities. Remember old is gold.

Don’t Own Anything

Ultimately, you don’t own anything. If you have a property and the lease is 99 years, will you still own it after your demise? So in fact you don’t own anything. If you own it you will not make money out of it. The secret lies in renting out your property.

If you have a big house, a property will only be an asset if it can fetch rental income. If you have a farmland, rent part of the land to others. You will have an assured monthly income from rental for you to survive.

Everyone has to age sooner or later. If you’re old you can try my tips above to continue living without a worry. Labour day comes once in a year. But when a person reaches above sixty years of age, every day becomes a labour day for the aged when they do not have the decent income to live in today’s self centred world.
