Links ignorance and its impact on blogs

I will like to share this with readers what I have learned from my recent steve pavlina forum post. I had been in blogging since 2007 but I became a serious blogger only in 2008 embarking in wordpress under my own domain name. I began to transform from a mediocre blogger in blogspot to more or less a professional blogger in word press. The transition was a blessing for me. I had a page rank of 2 and 3 links from Google within a few months.

I thought It was great. But I was wondering how in the world I could have got a page rank 2 and only 3 back links from Google. If you want to turn every stone in blogging you have to overcome your shyness. I just did and put forward a query in the steve pavlina’s forum on whether submitting my blog to search engines bring in a reasonable amount of traffic – as the traffic to my blog was rather lethargic.

Traffic

The impact of traffic to a blog is felt in two ways : bloggers who make a living out of a blog will get a little feverish if they cannot bring in traffic to their blogs. Making money out of a blog is very much dependant on traffic. Less traffic means less money being made. For bloggers who into blogging as a hobby need not feel in this way.

Then there are other factors like what kind of visitors click your google adsense, buy the things you sell online or subscribe to your post. There is such a thing called traffic culture : traffic from social media networking has a click through rate (CTR) of 1 per thousand visitors; 30 per thousand visitors who hit your blog via search engine route might purchase what you sell online or click your adsense. Therefore, a blogger who optimises his blog by right keywords will have a better chance of getting loyal readers and therefore good back links.

Back Links

What I infer from the forum discussion is this. The reason many blogs give up so easily is because bloggers lose patience when they fail to bring in traffic. What they fail to realise is that their level of commitment and interaction with other blogs and sites will one day come as back links.

What they fail to realise is that their level of commitment and interaction with other blogs and sites will one day come as back links

When I was ignorant of my own back links as I thought my 3 links from google are the only ones, I almost will want to give up my blogging. But my perseverance will not let me. I wanted to bring my blog high up so that readers may benefit from reading my post. I want to impact peoples’ lives. Forget about money making from blogs. I have a full time job which I love and have a decent income. Money making is not important to me now. I want to give value to my readers first. That is my priority. :)

Back links are those links that you have got from other websites. To date I thought It was the definition of back links. The signatures we put at the end of our comments, forum discussion and after your answers or questions in yahoo can all be considered as back links. If not for Vanessa who gave me vital tips on how to bring traffic I will still be ignorant of the fact that my blog has a 296 Yahoo links and 323 Alta Vista. Click my 947-links here .

By this discovery, I learn one thing as a blogger. All those time I spent with Yahoo Answers, forum discussion and comments column on other sites did not go to waste. All of those have given me good back links.

Do not be ignorant of your back links. Links ignorance will have an impact on your blog. A link is like your backbone of your blog. More of it make your blog stand up and out from the rest. Links ignorance therefore has a negative impact on your blog.
