Overcome Your Fear:Proenrichment Method

You need goal setting to change the direction of your life. If you want to know why do you have to make a goal go right now to read the article here. Goal setting is necessary for a successful life. That is why I have created a category especially for goal setting in this blog.

There are many reasons for not achieving your goal. In the first instance, you might think your current goal is important. Then there is something preventing you to pursue with it. Determination and expectation helps to wheel you towards your goal. But the power of drive towards your goal emanates when you overcome your fears. You can reach your goal quicker if you can conquer your fears.

Religion practices detachment as attachment with the things and people produces in us anxiety and fear of loss. It proposes that finally, everything has to wither and go away: our beliefs; our thoughts; our things and even the self sense and the identity that we build and so ferociously defend all the time. Religion says live like the lotus plant as the water never sticks to its petals. Religion says live like a fish as the salt content never absorbed in its system.

Religion has its own purpose but the definition of living is to know each other and do networking. We cannot live like Robinson Crusoe and expect everything to fall in its place.

What is fear?

Fear is an emotion. Fear is useless most of the time: it paralyses us, makes us lose our breath, and makes our legs give out. It is not necessarily one emotion but a mixed of feelings towards that something that is very apprehensive or repulsive when thought about. It is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger or pain, whether the threat is real, imagined or introduced.

Real

While you are taking a stroll in your neighbourhood, you see a ferocious dog running wildly towards you. Will you fear that the dog will attack you?

Imagined

You are in your room alone one night and then you hear foot steps at your hallway. Will you fear that there is a trespasser in your home?

Introduced

This is the worst kind of fear. The senior manager told you the company is thinking of cutting down staff. Will you fear of losing your job?

How to overcome?

Identify

The source of all worry can be classified as fear of something. If I say I am worried about the examination tomorrow, it means I am thinking of the pain of flopping in my papers. If you are worried about the meeting tomorrow, it means you fear you will not be able to convince the people you are meeting with. If you are worried about your job interview, it simply means you fear of not getting the job. Life is a bed of roses if you are constantly happy. If you are worried about something, you need to find out what your fear is and how to overcome it.

When you have identified the cause of your fear it will be easy to overcome it. If you agree that you have a problem with public speaking only then you will be able to find ways to speak freely and easily in public.

Facts

I still remember my first born- my son. As he passed the age of one he tripped and fell and hurt his head. We proceeded to the hospital as he had been crying from the pain. There the doctor took an x ray of his head and told us to prepare for the worst. The negative showed two cracks on his skull. The doctor was showing me and my wife the negative: the facts were there. My wife became very saddened. When I was analysing the negative of my son’s skull I interpreted the facts differently. I told the doctor that the cracks were symmetrical in nature and it’s the natural development of the skull. She said she still needed the specialist recommendation. The entire night we had to stay with our beautiful son at the hospital. The next morning, the specialist came and confirmed my findings.

How we interpret the facts also play a part in overcoming our fears. I give you an exercise to do. Let’s say one of your senior managers told you that the company was looking to find a new employee for your post. How will you react to this ‘whisper’? Do you stay fearful of the dreadful day of your termination or seek alternative means to overcome your fears and carry on with your career goal?

Change Your Belief

Our mind is a wired tissue looking for the same path to a situation. A belief is something that you regard to be the ultimate truth. Belief systems act like filters in the brain causing you to see the world in a specific way. They edit your reality and influence your actions. As a baby you belief system come as a blank. As a survival mechanism human beings are genetically programmed to mimic or model those around them, and as a result are extremely susceptible to external influences. In other words, what you see or what you think is not the truth.

Whatever happened in your past cannot happen now or in the future. You are special and you have special ability. You alone decide your destiny and aspirations. Only you can decide which path to take in your financial goal, relationship goal, career goal and other goals. You deserve all the good things in your life and entitled to the same privileges and opportunities like others.

Power of You Mind

Alexander the Great told his soldiers to ‘conquer your fears for you will conquer death’. This is another way to overcome any fear. In Islamic history a fighter in war for his religion gains immediate entry into heaven. The power of mind if used correctly will make your fears ‘tiny’ and your ability ‘big’.

For example, the fear of old age can be perceived as inactivity and loss of income. The correct way of thinking is to imagine that you will still be active and healthy in old age. Collate your experience and perhaps you can write a book and sell it. Work your mind forward to confront this fear and imagine what could happen to you when you’re reaching a ripe age. Switch to a vegetarian diet to stay healthy. Avoid foods like pork, chicken, dairy products, high starchy fruits, mushrooms and condiments. Our body is 70 percent water 30 percent matter. So your diet must be 70 per cent greens. You can also start planning some serious savings for your future.

Growth – at every step (difficulties and problems)

Poverty, criticism, ill health, old age and death are the general fears we can see everyday. Change is inevitable. The difficulties and problems we face everyday can be seen as actually a growth from one situation to another. Like nature, we have to move together with the changes in life.

For example, death is actually another reality from life. Like how a caterpillar turned into a pupa (death) and evolving into a higher form of life (butterfly). This is how we should see death.

Fear is the cause of many of our mental and physical diseases, ranging from phobias to asthma, high blood pressure, strokes and nervous conditions. Fear-filled words have the power to destroy, tear down, discourage, depress, malign, and even call into being death and disease.

Left unchecked, fear will keep you in a state of discouragement, frustration and denial. In it’s worst state it can destroy your business or career, your marriage, your health and your happiness.
